Privacy Policy

How BetShop Nigeria collects, uses, and protects your personal data.

Last updated: 09 September 2026

1. Who we are

BetShop Nigeria operates the website betshop.com.ng ("the Site"). We are an independent editorial and comparison platform for Nigerian sports betting sites. We are not a betting operator and we do not hold any gambling licence.

For privacy enquiries, contact us at hello@betshop.com.ng.

2. Data we collect

Data you provide directly

  • Contact form submissions — your name, email address, and the content of your message when you use our contact form.
  • Shop submissions — your name, email address (both optional), and the shop location details you submit via our shop locator submission form.
  • User reviews — your name, email address (optional), and review content if you submit a bookmaker review.

Data collected automatically

  • Usage data — pages visited, time on site, referring URLs, browser type, and device type, collected via server logs and analytics tools.
  • IP address — used for rate limiting on public submission forms and for security purposes. IP addresses are stored in anonymised or hashed form.
  • Cookies — see Section 4 below.

3. How we use your data

  • To respond to contact form messages and enquiries.
  • To verify and publish betting shop submissions to our locator.
  • To moderate and publish user reviews where approved.
  • To improve Site content and user experience using aggregated, anonymised analytics.
  • To detect and prevent spam, abuse, and fraudulent submissions.
  • To comply with legal obligations under Nigerian law, including the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling.

4. Cookies

BetShop Nigeria uses the following types of cookies:

  • Essential cookies — required for the Site to function, including session cookies used to maintain CSRF security tokens on submission forms. These cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies — used to collect anonymised data about how visitors use the Site (pages visited, session duration, referral source). We use this data in aggregate only and do not identify individual users.
  • Affiliate tracking cookies — set when you click a link to a bookmaker from our Site. These cookies are set by the bookmaker's domain (not betshop.com.ng) and enable us to receive a commission if you register. You can block these by using a browser extension such as uBlock Origin.

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may affect the functionality of our submission forms.

5. Third parties

We share data with the following categories of third party:

  • Hosting provider — our web hosting provider processes server access logs containing IP addresses and request data for security and operational purposes.
  • Analytics provider — anonymised usage data is shared with our analytics provider to help us improve the Site.
  • Bookmakers (affiliate links) — when you click a link to a bookmaker, that bookmaker's website may set its own cookies and collect data in accordance with its own privacy policy. We are not responsible for third-party data practices.

We do not share personally identifiable information with bookmakers or any other commercial third parties.

6. Data retention

  • Contact form messages are retained for 12 months, then permanently deleted.
  • Shop submission data (address details and submitter contact if provided) is retained for as long as the shop listing is live, then anonymised on deletion.
  • Server logs containing IP addresses are retained for 30 days for security purposes, then deleted.
  • Approved user reviews are published and retained indefinitely unless a removal request is received.

7. Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate personal data.
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your personal data, subject to any legal obligations requiring us to retain it.
  • Objection — object to the processing of your personal data for certain purposes.
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@betshop.com.ng. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include HTTPS encryption on all pages, CSRF token protection on all forms, and rate limiting on public submission endpoints.

No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we maintain and update our security practices regularly.

9. Children

BetShop Nigeria is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a child has submitted personal data to us, please contact us at hello@betshop.com.ng and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with Nigeria's National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), which oversees data protection enforcement under the NDPR.
